How To Keep Your Lips Happy
9:55 PMThere's lots of wonderful things to love about winter, but dry and chapped lips are not one of them. Nice, moisturized lips can have such a huge impact on your appearance and your mood, so lets give these bad boys some attention!
When it comes to keeping your lips happy, there's three essentials: a scrub, a "carry around" lip balm, and an intense lip balm. Depending on how your lips behave and your personal preference these products can vary from drugstore to high-end and anything in between. All the products I have (since my lips are usually quite good) are all basic, but they still work really well.
The newest addition to the family is my Duane Reade lip balm. I was surprised by how much I like this: it melts into the lips, keeps them moisturized for a long time, it's super small and portable and it has spf 15! Sun protection is really important even for your lips because, believe it or not, they can actually burn too and be affected by the sun like the rest of your skin.
Lip scrubs are easy to make, but if you're lazy like me, Lush has a really great one. I have the bubble gum flavor but there's lots to choose from (personally I recommend mint) and they're all pretty nice. The wonderful thing about lip exfoliants is that they literally remove all the dead and dry cells, so you're left with baby soft lips. Plus, you can eat the scrub after you're done!
The last important thing, in my opinion, is a nice thick and intense lip balm to use overnight. My room is personally always really cold, so I know that if I don't moisturize my lips before going to bed I'm going to wake up with horribly chapped lips. Even if this isn't your experience I would still recommend it- it won't hurt to give your lips a bit more of attention! The one I've been using is the Vaseline lip therapy that comes in the little pot. I like it but it's just a tad too sticky for me; I recommend the one that comes from the tube which-for some weird reason- is much better.
If your lips really don't agree with the wether I would suggest swapping out your bold berry lips for a tinted lip balm. Products like Baby Lips are great. They add some shine and color to your lips, but they still keep in the moisture and look natural. Two of my favorite shades are 'Cherry me!", a nice sheer-everyday red, and "Oh!Orange!", a bright-but wearable- orange. They both add a pop of color to your makeup, but without being too bold.
