    not my photo

Everybody always says that the smallest decisions are the ones that affect your life the most, and even though that's often true, we also can't deny the fact that sometimes you make such a big decision that your life is bound to change drastically. This is my case.

For this post to make much sense you should probably head over here and read a bit of background information. For those of you who don't know, I applied to a program which allows students to travel abroad and experience a new culture, and I have been accepted in. I'm going to be living in China for 11 months! This is super exciting but super duper fricking scary.

I've never been to China, or even Asia, and I really don't know what to expect. I've never studied Chinese, don't know much about its culture or its people. I don't even know where in China I'm going to stay yet! All I know is that this is going to be a life changing experience and that I'm going to be taking you guys along. For now, this is all. I'm sorry, I'll get in more detail soon, but I'm really tired now.

    9:40 PM

Recently I hit my local drugstore (and a cheeky Sephora) to replace some empties and to just generally have a little look around. I came out with a variety of different products, which I'm very excited to try, and so I thought I would share some.

I was mostly on the hunt for makeup remover. I picked up the L'Oreal 'skin perfection cleansing&perfecting milk', which I've already started using and I'm already loving. It's really gentle on the skin, it melts off all my makeup, and keeps my skin feeling soft and moisturized. For my lazy days I also bought some makeup wipes. The ones I got are from 'sensure' which I think is only an Italian brand, but to be honest I've never heard of it nor tried it. Last but not least I also got two eye makeup removers. The first one is the Garnier 'simply essentials 2 in 1 makeup remover', and it seems like such a cool concept. The liquid in the bottle is divided in two, and according to the description, it's a mixture of makeup remover (the blue liquid) and cleansing water (to leave your skin feeling fresh). I haven't tried it yet, but I'm super excited to see how it works out. I also bought a more 'normal' makeup remover from Rimmel, which I still haven't tried either.

One of the products I'm most excited for in this haul is my new Pantene 'defined curls mousse'. I've been wanting to try a mousse for a very long time, and for some reason I haven't bought one until now. I'll surely let you know how I get on with this beauty. Also exciting, at least for me, is my new Dove body wash. It's super creamy and moisturizing, which is exactly what I like in my body wash, and it also smells lovely.

I wasn't sure if to include this next product in the haul because it's a bit awkward, but you know what? It shouldn't be! Body hair is natural and we shouldn't feel obliged to remove it in the first place, but nonetheless, I bought some facial waxing strips. The ones I got are from Veet, and, though it wasn't a pleasant experience, it wasn't too bad and they did the job.

I saved the two most exciting products, at least in my opinion, for last. First off we have two face masks from Nivea. I got the 'refreshing moisture mask' and the 'purifying mask'. I only tried the first one between the two and I absolutely loved it. Lately I feel as though my skin has been lacking moisture, and this mask hydrated my skin and left it feeling soft and fresh. And now, onto the most exciting purchase probably ever, I did it. I caved in. I bought into the hype. I got the Too Faced 'better than sex' mascara. I've only used it once so far, so it seems a bit early to give out a good opinion, but so far I like it.

    9:29 PM

I have a huge sweet tooth, and it often seems as if only a piece of double chocolate cake can satisfy it. However, though delicious, cake isn't really the "healthiest" option and you can't exactly make a cake in a couple of minutes. So, unless you have a super healthy but satisfying cake already made, when that sugar craving sets in you're probably going to reach in your hidden junk food stash, and that's something we want to avoid.

Today I have this super simple snack to satisfy all your cravings. It honestly takes just a couple of minutes to make and it's super delicious and pretty healthy. All you have to do is melt some dark chocolate, cut up a banana, cover it in chocolate and then sprinkle on top a topping of your choice. I put on some ground almonds, ground pistachio, and even some sea salt. They turn out super cute and tasty, and they're perfect for any small get togethers with your friends.

So next time you feel like reaching into your secret stash, instead of indulging in a snickers bar that you'll regret later on, try getting out of bed and heading to the kitchen. I promise you won't regret it. I hope you guys try this out, and I also wanted to thank you for 1000 views! I can't believe it, thank you all.

    10:24 PM

Tucked away between the pages of one of my old notebooks I found a heading labeled "TO-DO". Though the title may fool you, the list that followed was not full of chores; on the contrary, it was my bucket list. I'm guessing that most people have a bucket list, even if it's not written down anywhere. It's that little voice in the back of your mind that tells you "one day I'll do it". Personally, I'm always curious to know what other people are dying to try, and so (in the hope that some of you are nosey) I've decided to share my "must-dos".

    1. Travel to all seven continents: as you'll probably notice from this list, traveling is something I really want to do. I want to explore the world and see everything it has to offer, so hopefully I'll either find a job that allows me to travel or a rich husband to pay the plane tickets! (I'm not a gold digger, I'll settle for economic class ;))!

    2. Go backpacking through Europe: All "rich husband" jokes aside, I really want to travel away from luxury. I've been camping my whole life, and it's something I really enjoy, but I want to take it one step further. My dream is to go away with my friends, with just a backpack on our shoulders and some cash in our pockets, and travel around Europe by trains or hitch-hiking. I want to sleep in youth hostels, or in campgrounds or even on a stranger's couch!

    3. Go on a road trip: This is very similar, but hey, who cares! Road trips seem extremely fun, and they're easier to organize and safer than hitch hiking. Even though, if I'm being honest, I would probably be the worst road trip companion ever, I mean I get car sick very easily!

    4. Have a kiss under the rain: Yes, I am that cheesy. Let's not get started, okay? I know that in reality it would probably be horrible because you're wet, and cold, and water is getting everywhere and the makeup is running down your face, but let me dream. It just seems like the most magical movie like moment ever.

    5. Hook up with a random guy: I tricked you right? From the last statement you probably thought I was a romantic, and now I'm throwing you this curve ball. I know it's a bit controversial, but for some reason it's something I've always wanted to do. I think it's somewhat amazing how you can get so intimate with a total stranger, and never know anything about them. It's beautiful in a way.

    6. Participate in a color run: I always see people (or images of people) covered in colors with the biggest smile on their faces. I want that. Throwing colors at your friends and strangers and being part of this mass event. It's just so cheerful and beautiful.

    7. Go to a new place ALONE: I've always had trouble being alone. I suffer from the so-called "fomo" (aka fear of missing out), and I've just always had a hard time being at ease and not feeling awkward when I'm by myself. Over these past couple of years I've been getting much better, but I want to become independent and, mostly, capable of spending time with myself. I think that exploring a new place on my own is the perfect opportunity and soon I'm going to have that chance...stay tooned till next week to find out probably the BIGGEST thing that has happened in my life yet (hint hint: is 16 too young to move out?..maybe not)

    8. Try weird foods: I want to travel not only to see beautiful places, but mostly to explore different cultures (again, hint hint, stay tooned until next week) and I think that that's something that can be done through food. A country's traditional food can teach us a lot about the way people live there, even though some things might sound disgusting to us.

    9. Do work with charity: Something I really want to do is give back. My dream is to travel to a place in need (like Africa) and help the population first hand. I'm not satisfied with giving money to an association, I actually want to feel as though I'm doing something. I want to meet the people that need and use the money, and learn their stories and help better their lives.

    10. Celebrate 50 years of friendship: My best friend and I have been by each other's side for 13 years now. That's already so long (I mean, I've only lived 3 years without knowing her!) and I can't wait to stay with her forever. I know that friends often argue and fall out of touch, but I really think that we're meant to last. I can't wait to celebrate our 50 years of friendship, because I'm sure we're going to make it.

    6:53 PM

A couple of days ago my best friend and I got together and put paint to paper. We were feeling creative and, Valentine's day being a great excuse to redecorate, we decided to make some 'love' inspired pictures. We were kind of just playing around, so they turned out a bit messy, but I think the ideas are super cute and make wonderful February room decor (just maybe paint them on a canvas instead of paper like we did if you want to hang them up).

Both of the drawings we made are Pinterest inspired and super easy to make. My best friend started out by cutting out a heart and dotting the outline using an eraser. She used an almost pink red, and continued to fill with dots the inside of the heart as well.

An almost essential part of painting (or doing basically anything really) is good music. As you might know from my 'favorite apps' post, I'm completely obsessed with 8tracks. It lets you create/listen to playlist based on genre/artists/moods/activities and anything else really. I put in "happy" and "acoustic" (because that's what I was in the mood for) and found an amazing playlist.

For my drawing, I started out by spelling out "love" with tape on my paper. I then continued by randomly applying splashes of color everywhere. I stayed in the pink/red color-scheme but you can do this with any colors/word. After the paint has dried, just remove the tape!

One of my New Years resolutions was to start painting more and it's definitely something I've been doing and I absolutely love it. I am by no means good at it, but it's super relaxing and a great way to spend time with friends and away from technology. It's very therapeutic in a way.

I had an amazing day with my friend, and I would really recommend getting out some paintbrushes the next time you're with your bff. I was in a very casual and comfy outfit. A plain black top from Brandy Melville, my favorite printed and loose pants from Forever 21, and my new shoes from H&M.

As you might have noticed I missed a whole week of uploading, and I am not happy about it. But it's not just this week, lately my posts have been late or messy, and overall I'm not satisfied with the content I've been putting out. I wanted to make this post to apologize, but mostly to try and figure out the root of this problem and how to fix it.

Lately I've been lacking inspiration and creativity. I don't want to upload boring content. I want my posts to be original and creative, and I'm really struggling with that. So please, if you have any suggestions on how to find inspiration or you have any posts that you would like to see tell me.

I've also been disorganized, which is a personal fault. I actually had a post ready to upload for Thursday, and because of time managing problems I didn't get around to it. This is definitely something I'm going to work on, and I'm really going to try and improve.

I'm sorry this post was pointless and chatty, I really just wanted to write it for myself. I'm having a bit of a writer's blog and, after my unplanned break, I needed a way to ease back into blogging. Starting tomorrow I will be back on my Sunday-Tuesday-Thursday schedule.

    7:18 PM

One of the main reasons why I started this blog was to push myself to experiment with makeup. Now, this isn't another 'New Years' post, it's more of a reminder for myself: don't give up. Makeup can be scary for me sometimes because I'm afraid that if I try something new I'll look like a fool. Or because my winged liner is never going to be as good as her winged liner. Or because my red lipstick will just look messy and silly compared to her lipstick. This is a reminder to stop comparing myself and start experimenting and practicing and owning it, even if it doesn't look so great at first. Practice makes perfect.

    1. Learn to apply winged liner.
    2. Learn how to define and fill in your brows. Don't be afraid.
    3. Clean your makeup brushes at least once a month (it should be more frequent, but baby steps)
    4. Try new things. Don't get stuck in your everyday routine, and experiment!
    5. Take a bit extra time when doing your makeup.
    6. Take better care of your nails. Paint them regularly, and file them (even if you hate it).
    7. Figure out your hair. Experiment with it. Spend more time on it. Find something that works and stick with it.

    Fashion Favorites:
My first obsession of the month has been my vintage leather jacket. I've already mentioned it in this lifestyle post, so if you want so see more photos check it out. It was my main Christmas gift from my family this year and I absolutely love it. It goes well with almost every outfit, it's great for layering and it's super comfortable! I've been wearing it almost everyday. Since it's actually vintage and not a fake I can't direct you to a store, but if you want something like this go browsing in a thrift shop.

My second fashion favorite has been my Brandy Melville 'Nikola Top'. It's a simple, black and white striped shirt. It's super comfortable and easy to wear. You can dress it up or down, and really play around with it and personalize it to your style. It's also long enough that you can wear it with leggings without worry.

sorry it's not my own photo (source)
    Food Favorites:
I've been obsessed with two snacks this month: granola bars and bounty.

I was never one for breakfast, even though it is the most important meal of the day, eating early just made me feel queasy. However, lately I've been getting better and eating a bit more. I'm still not to the point where I can sit down and have a 'proper' breakfast, nor does my rushed morning routine allow time for that, but I can grab a bite to eat before heading out the door. This is where these bad boys come in. They're perfect because I can take one right before leaving the house, and eat it while on my way to school.

Another thing I never liked before: coconut. I used to hate it, both taste and texture, and suddenly I'm in love. More specifically with chocolate and coconut. At the start of the month I got a pack of bountys, and I haven't been able to put them down ever since! They're the perfect thing to satisfy my sweet tooth...but not exactly the healthiest.

    Tv Favorites:
It couldn't be a non-beauty favorites without some tv recommendations. I've mentioned both the shows I'm about to talk about in my 'shows to binge watch' post (which btw you should definitely check out as I'm a serious binge watching expert).

The first is Game of Thrones. I used to be very skeptical about the show, I just didn't think I was going to like it. But I do. Oh man, do I. It's unbelievable. The special effects, the plot, the characters, the costumes, the scenery, the acting. Everything is just so perfect. There's a perfect balance between romance and action, drama and comedy, and it has something for everyone.

My second tv favorite, is quite the opposite. Dance Moms. Wait! Don't judge me! It's not what it looks like! Okay. It is. I'm one of those suckers for reality tv, but what can I say? I know they're stupid, but the heart wants what the heart wants. Dance Moms has got me completely hooked. The only thing I can say (at least if you're a fellow reality tv lover) is go watch it.

    10:36 PM

It's almost surreal that January is over, and even though it was a good month, I'm glad to be moving on. January is always gloomy, and while February is often rainy, it's one step closer to nice weather. Since I didn't do a December favorite, I have quite a lot of products (for my standard anyway) and I will actually be doing a non beauty favorite as well, so keep your eyes peeled.

The first few products I've actually already mentioned on this blog in my everyday natural makeup routine, because I love them so much that I wear them almost everyday. First off on this list, and maybe my favorites, are my Sephora brushes. I have the 'Classic Must Have Foundation Brush #10' (which I ironically use for concealer) and the 'Classic Multitasker Powder Brush #45'. They're both super soft, blend really nicely, and also look super cool and sleek. Plus, for the quality and compared to many other brushes, they're pretty cheap. I definitely want to try other brushes from Sephora.

Also mentioned in my everyday makeup are my Dior 'Diorskin Star Concealer' and my Revlon 'Nearly Naked Pressed Powder'. For the concealer I have the lightest shade 001, and I love it. It's  super brightening and it's not too heavy on the skin. For the powder I have the shade 030 'medium' which, since it's winter, is a tad too dark. This is my first ever powder foundation and I really like it. As the name would suggest it's very light coverage but it's buildable and it looks very natural on the skin.

Last but not least makeup wise is a MAC lipgloss. This is really unusual for me: first off I'm not a lipgloss kinda gal and mostly, I'm not a 'nudes' person in winter. However, lately I've been reaching for this shade almost everyday. It's 'Big Baby' from the Mac Plushglass. It's a pinky nude with a bit of shimmer that fakes the appearance of fuller lips. It's super wearable and not too sticky (though my hair always manages to get caught in it).

My next favorite is actually a sample size, and though I love it and I'm almost out of my second sample, I don't know if I'm ever going to purchase the full size. It's the 'Paco Ravanne Lady Million' perfume. I'm very bad at describing scents, but it's very elegant but wearable and not overpowering at the same time. The website says it has top notes of raspberries, Amalfi lemon, and Neroli, but tbh I don't really smell any of that. However it's super nice and I would definitely recommend giving it a sniff.

My 'body' favorite has been my DIY body and face scrub. I told you how to make it in this post, and I've been using it ever since. It's moisturizing, it exfoliates gently, and it's full of benefits for the skin. It's also super easy to make (with only 4 ingredients I'm sure you already have), and lasts quite a long time.

My last two beauty favorites are makeup removers. First off are the 'Refreshing Facial Cleansing Wipes' from Nivea. These remove makeup really well and they don't dry out the skin at all! Every other makeup wipe I've ever tried left my skin feeling sticky and dirty, these however keep it feeling moisturized and fresh. Now, I wasn't sure if to include my last favorite, because I'm pretty sure it's only available in Italy, but it's something I've been loving so I thought it would be right to include it. It's a makeup remover and it's actually from a supermarket brand, Conad, but it's surprisingly good. It feels like water on the skin and it removes makeup super well, and leaves the skin feeling fresh and soft. Plus, it's super cheap!

    10:30 PM
I've been trying to come up with some original content for this blog, which is actually much harder than it sounds (which is why I didn't post Thursday-sorry). Everybody seems to be doing the same thing, and I've just been lacking inspiration. And when your creativity leaves you stranded, you sometimes find an unexpected path to help you out- in this case commercials. It's weird because I usually snob ads, and I'm sure I'm not alone. They're annoying; good as a snack break and nothing else. However, when a commercial is well made it leaves me breathless. They're totally underrated, so I thought I would share my favorite ones.

    *in no particular order

    1. Discovery Channel "I love the whole world" song

This was one of those love-at-first-sight kind of thing. The song is so catchy and fun and it always puts me in the best mood. This is a bit embarrassing, but I actually downloaded it on my phone and I listen to it when I'm sad. It puts things into perspectives and it reminds me that the world is an amazing place.

    2. 'Always' #LikeAGirl

I'm sure that you all know about this commercial, as it went completely viral. It illustrates such an important concept that we forget. We misuse the expression "like a girl", and use it as a negative thing when it's not. 'Like a girl' should not be an insult; we should not put down girls.

    3. Ikea 'experience the power of a bookbook' catalog

Let's change it up a bit. This is one of the funniest commercials I've ever seen. It's so sarcastic and well made. I thought it was a brilliant idea, and it puts our whole world into perspective.

    4. First Moon Party

To stick to funny viral videos- the First Moon Party. I'm sure most of you have seen it. It's so funny but it also talks about an important issue. Periods should be something we talk about more; well...maybe not so much as to throw a party but still.

    5. Sainsbury's Christmas 2014

Okay, I was very emotional when I watched this, but I cried. I swear. Actual tears were running down my cheeks. It's so well made, it feels like a mini movie not a commercial. It's so sweet and cute. I'm getting emotional again just thinking about it.

    6. Verizon 'Inspire Her Mind'

Another feminist commercial, because it's important. What we say to young girls can affect them for the rest of their lives. We should never criticize somebody for being who they are and liking what they like. We must encourage all children to follow their dreams and work hard.

    7. Most Shocking Second A Day Video

This is another viral hit. It gives me chills every time I see it. It illustrates how war is real. Just because it isn't happening where we live and we're lucky not to know it personally, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. It's an important issue that affects and ruins the lives of a big part of the world.

    8. Dear Future Mom

Another one that made me cry. This was so heartwarming. It's an important issue- people with down syndrome are people too. I thought this was so cute, so go watch it!

    9. Volkswagen 'Eyes on the Road'

This is the last viral one. I promise. If you haven't seen it, the whole commercial is a genius idea. Real people go to see a movie and there's a commercial of a car playing. Suddenly everybody gets a text message, and while they look down at their phones... well I don't want to spoil it. But let me just say, drinking and driving isn't safe. Don't do it.

    10. Potty Mouthed Princesses

Okay I cheated. I put two in one, but they're the same thing. They're very controversial, I'm warning you, but I think it's good. It gets attention to important topics like feminism and domestic violence. Because really, what's worse? Children cursing or the gender discrimination in our society?
